This world can feel like such a dark place. Sometimes, if I let it, my own life can feel dark, lonely, and cold. Troubles come, things feel hopeless, problems seem insurmountable, and I get discouraged. My anxiety level increases and before I know it, I am a mess.

God never leaves me in my moments of despair. He is never far away when a child is sick and I need the Almighty Healer. He is only a whisper away when a circumstance leaves me hurting and broken or I am feeling unworthy and insecure.

His love is right there with me, surrounding me in a warm embrace. His word is right there with me, guiding me through the storm. His presence and His word bring me hope. They bring me encouragement. They remind me of my value as a child of God. They bring me out of the darkness and into the light.

For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God enlightens my darkness. (Psalm 18:28)

God is our light, no matter our circumstances. When we are like a child who finds themselves lost and frightened, alone in the darkness, our Heavenly Father shines His marvelous light upon us, giving us direction, leading us to safety, calming our fears.

What a marvelous Father we have! What a glorious light He gives. And how readily accessible He is…only a breath away from us, always walking beside us, matching our footsteps with each step we take.

When we are troubled and in a dark place, we must seek His light. How do we do that? By reading His word.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The Word of God is filled with so much to enlighten us, to direct us, to give us a sense of well-being and purpose. We don’t have to stumble around in the darkness, not knowing which way to turn or what to do.

His wisdom is there for us. His love is there to radiate its warmth on our hearts and souls, reminding us that we are chosen and beloved. His word is there to lead us out of our turmoil, shame, pain, and insecurity and into hope, promise, and faith.

Do you need to be reminded of that at times? I know I certainly do. In my dark times I need to be reminded that I am the daughter of the King of Kings. I need to be reminded that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, that He will never leave me nor forsake me, that He has plans for my future that are only meant to prosper me.

The darker the world around us becomes, the more we are going to need that warm, beautiful, safe light from the Father. The more we are ridiculed for our love of Jesus, the greater the need will be for His overwhelming love and assurance.

We are lovers of Jesus, followers of the One True King. Let us seek Him in all things, come what may, and let us look to our Father in Heaven to continue to shine His light in our hearts and our lives, protecting us from the darkness of the enemy.

Then and only then can we be a light to others, offering hope to the hopeless and love to the unloved. Then and only then can we all shine as bright as the stars He placed above us!
