Do You Need A Road Map?

Have you ever gotten lost? Have you ever driven around for hours trying to figure out where you are?
This happened to me the other day. I went to visit my kids in the “big city”, a trip I have made numerous times. Somehow, I took a wrong turn off the freeway, and before I knew it, I was lost.
I drove one direction for a while, until I began to feel hopeless of finding my way, then I turned another direction. Although the street names were familiar, I was simply unable to get to where I needed to be.
The simple solution would have been to call my son and have him direct me to his apartment. Easy, right? But no, stubborn me! I was determined to find my own way.
How often are we like that in our spiritual lives? We take a wrong turn, make a bad choice, somewhere along the way. Instead of going to the Word of God and letting that truth guide us back in the right direction, we wander around on our own, lost and hopeless.
We don’t cry out for Jesus because we are too stubborn, and foolish enough to think we can find our way alone. We keep running around in circles when God is right there to guide our steps. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8).
Friends, the directions are right in front of us. We don’t have to wander around, confused and lacking direction. There is no need for us to be alone and afraid. There is no reason for us to live with uncertainty.
All we need to do is open up God’s word. It will lead us in the right direction. “Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:3).
I finally found my way to the apartment that day. I found my way when I gave in and looked at the map.
